Boy Scout Training
This is the description for Boy Scout training.
Step 1: Fast Start Training is intended to give every Boy Scout leader the absolute basics they'll need to start performing in whatever role they've taken: Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster or Troop Committee member. Fast Start will take about 20 minutes to complete. Training materials can be found at http://olc.scouting.org/
Step 2: Youth Protection Trained Leaders is our highest priority for the safety and well-being of our youth members and participants. The training will teach every leader and parent the rules of child protection in the Boy Scouts of America. Youth Protection training is one part of a comprehensive youth protection training program that formally began in 1988. Training materials can be found at http://olc.scouting.org/
Step 3: The New Leader Essentials training course is now replaced by a new training course entitled This Is Scouting. The new course is intended to give all Scout leaders an initial understanding of the BSA aims, goals, policies, and leader support. You only need to take either New Leader Essentials or This is Scouting once, even if you change Scouting positions or programs. The course takes about 2 hours to complete. If you took New Leader Essentials in the past your training requirement is fulfilled. This Is Scouting is the only course currently being instructed, it is also available to take on-line. Either New Leader Essentials or This Is Scouting is required to be considered trained as Troop Committee member or Chairperson.
Step 4: Boy Scout Leader Specific is focus on the essentials of being a good Scout Leader. This course will give you the confidence and skills needed to ensure your immediate success in being an effective Scout Leader. (Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster, Troop Committee member.) The course takes about 8 hours to complete.
Step 4 - Sub1: Introduction to Outdoor Skills training will give you the hands on practical outdoor skills needed to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. This training is geared toward the Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster, but Webelos Leaders are welcome too! Bring a mug, Boy Scout Handbook, and Scoutmaster Handbook. This training is usually preceded by the Scoutmaster/Assistant Scoutmaster Leader Specific Training.
Step 4 - Sub 2: Troop Committee Challenge helps the troop committee members better understand their roles and responsibilities. Through hands-on experimental learning, this training will also enable troop committee members to better serve their troop.
